Twitter ‘s former head of security, Peiter Zatko, has disclosed the firm is consciously “misleading the public” about issues bothering on Data Protection and Privacy.
Speaking to the US senate on Tuesday, September 13, peiter claimed Twitter is “terribly behind” as regards security standards , with claims users’ data are not in all totality protected as too many staff have access to it.
Peiter in an an 84-page long whistleblowing complaint he made about security practices inside the social network revealed the following ;
- Twitter has too many Bot accounts and refused to let him know the amount of fake accounts in the platform.
- Peoples’ personal information like their Phone number, IP address – from which a physical address could potentially be found, Email address, Type of device, Type of browser, Location a user connected from could enable an individual to be targeted in the real world.
- Twitter as an organization prioritizing revenue generation above everything else.
- Twitter accepts advertisement from “organizations which may or may not be associated with the Chinese government”, a potential national security risk.
- Half the company engineers have access to users’ personal & private information. [explicit content]
- Twitter does not log the activity of employees who access private data – it means that employees could “dox” users, where private information is posted online.
- Around 4,000 employees have access to the data’s and rogue employees have the power to take information without leaving a trace.
- Twitter’s security systems makes it difficult to monitor potential espionage thus revealing an Indian spy had been employed by the company .

Zatko was personally hired by Twitter’s co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey, after a high-profile attack of the platform’s celebrity accounts. Zatko has previously worked for the US government and Google.
In January, Zatko was fired by Twitter amidst denying his allegations. However, Elites believe his allegations could also come as ammo for Elon Musk who is in engaged in a billion dollar takeover lawsuit with the microblogging platform.
