The Federal High Court located in Enugu has mandated the University of Lagos UNILAG, Obafemi Awolowo University OAU, and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to halt all admission activities for the 2025/2026 academic year.
An expert in education technology and the CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, shared the court’s decree on his X platform on Tuesday.
The directive was handed down by Justice A.T. Segun-Bello on Tuesday, after an urgent ex-parte application was submitted by a group of candidates—Chibuzor Success, Oyeleye Zainab Ayomide, Adedeji John Samuel, Monsura Aliat Aduragbem, and Bassey Daniel Nsikak—representing other affected applicants from the 2025 post-UTME assessments at both universities.

The petitioners sought temporary restraining orders against the institutions and JAMB from issuing, approving, uploading, or finalizing any admission lists for the upcoming academic year.
While deliberating on the request, Justice Segun-Bello determined that there existed a “genuine and contestable issue” that warranted hearing from both parties and instructed the petitioners to notify the respondents.

The judge additionally commanded all involved parties to maintain the existing situation, preserving the current status regarding the admission list for 2025/2026, until the substantive motion is heard. The case is set to resume on October 28, 2025, for further proceedings.
