The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has issued a reminder to Nigerians as Valentine’s Day approaches.
NACA cautioned Nigerians to Love wisely and safeguard against HIV.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the agency’s Director General, Dr. Temitope Ilori, encouraged Nigerians to make educated choices by adopting proper protective measures.
She urged Nigerians to focus on safety and accountability to curb the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
The statement highlights, “HIV continues to be a significant public health issue, yet it is avoidable. Partaking in precarious activities — such as having unprotected intercourse, multiple partners, or substance misuse that clouds judgment, can heighten the risk of HIV transmission.
“Understanding your status is essential for the well-being of yourself and others. Regular HIV testing ought to be integral to your healthcare regimen.
“We aspire for everyone to celebrate Valentine’s Day while making choices that safeguard their health.
“HIV is avoidable, and we possess the means to halt its transmission. Love wisely, get tested, and make educated decisions.”
