Afrobeats superstar Davido has a cautionary message for Africans heading back home or Americans considering a trip to Africa. He encouraged them to think twice because the economic situation there is ‘in disarray.’
“It’s not great back home,” Davido conveyed to host Big Homie Kodaq. The artist noted that local residents frequently pay more for fuel than nations importing it.
“I contribute in my way, I’m an investor,” he mentioned. “When I return home and I’m shooting a film, I won’t highlight the negative aspects… The Nigerians are dealing with a skewed exchange rate… many things are not functioning well.”
He added: “The economy is simply not thriving. The oil prices are exorbitant, and consider a nation that produces oil. We extract the oil yet we shell out more cash for fuel than countries that import it.”
More than 65% of Nigerian households struggle to afford nutritious meals due to the economic climate.
Davido pointed out that entertainment like Afrobeats portrays Nigeria positively. “However, we don’t have the best leadership, that’s the truth.”
