The FG has instructed the administration of all federal higher education institutions in Nigeria to publish comprehensive financial and academic information on their websites by May 31, 2025. This was communicated by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, in a release signed by Boriowo Folasade, the ministry’s spokesperson.
Per the instruction, vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts are required to reveal their institutions’ yearly budget allocation, encompassing personnel expenses, operational costs, and capital investment. Furthermore, they must disclose information regarding research grants acquired from overseas institutions, multilateral bodies, and development collaborators.
“The instruction additionally mandates institutions to publish the total worth of their endowment fund as recorded at the conclusion of the preceding year,” the release states. “This amount, indicative of funds received or invested for the institution’s enduring financial stability, must be refreshed quarterly to maintain accuracy and transparency.”
The minister also ordered institutions to disclose their present student enrollment figures for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. This information is designed to aid in assessing each institution’s enrolment scale and academic capability.
The ministry underscored that the data must be presented in a straightforward, accessible, and user-friendly manner. “Websites should be arranged to enable the public, including parents, students, and stakeholders, to easily find and comprehend these data elements,” it added.
