Teyana Taylor has decided to forgo her scheduled appearance on Michelle Obama’s IMO podcast in order to have surgery to excise a tumor on her vocal cord.
The 34-year-old singer/actress revealed on August 6 that she will be undergoing a procedure to eliminate a benign (non-cancerous) growth.
“I’ve been quietly managing some vocal issues for a while now,” Teyana shared on her Instagram Story. She mentioned that her physician “discovered a noncancerous mass on one of my vocal cords that’s been interfering with my voice and causing substantial discomfort.”
She added, “Fortunately, we caught it in time & it’s something that can be treated — but it does require me to take a step back and allow myself the time to completely recover.”

Teyana has called off her guest appearance on Michelle’s podcast, but she has not altered the August 22 launch date for her forthcoming album, Escape Room.
“It’s the most intimate collection of work I’ve ever put together,” she expressed. “Just when I was prepared to finally unveil this to you, life presented me with my own unforeseen ‘escape room’ — one I didn’t solicit, but one I now have to navigate with patience, rest, and faith.”
Teyana is a mother to two daughters, Rue Rose, 4, and Junie, 9, whom she shares with her former husband Iman Shumpert. This week, the children posed for photographs with their mother at SiriusXM Studios in New York City. Teyana was there to promote her upcoming album.
