Former PDP presidential aspirant Dele Momodu says President Bola Tinubu’s government has taken unprecedented loans, raising concerns over budget management and fiscal accountability.
Dele Momodu Criticizes Tinubu Government Over Borrowing and Budget Management
Former Dele Momodu has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of taking more loans than all previous Nigerian governments combined.
Momodu made the remarks during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST on Wednesday.
Concerns About Budget Transparency
According to Momodu, the APC-led government has yet to show tangible results from the trillions of naira in loans it has accumulated. He argued that ordinary Nigerians remain unaware of how the borrowed funds are being utilized.
“Tinubu’s government has taken more loans than all the governments of Nigeria combined. We have not seen the effects of that loan. There is a lot going on that Nigerians cannot understand,” Momodu said.
He also criticized what he described as propagandists who defend the government without evidence, stating that some commentators are quick to praise the administration without accountability.
APC and Policy Contradictions
Momodu further pointed out inconsistencies in the ruling APC party’s messaging. He noted that although the party is an offshoot of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the current government often deflects blame onto Buhari and even itself.
He said, “APC is supposed to be an offshoot of the Buhari administration, yet every day it is APC itself that is blaming Buhari and APC. You wonder if these guys are serious at all.”
Questions Over Economic Claims
The publisher of Ovation Magazine also dismissed claims by the Tinubu administration that it has stabilized the naira against the dollar.
“They say they stabilized exchange rates, but they forget to tell us where the dollar was when they took power,” he added.
Momodu stressed that despite the administration’s claims of managing a budget in the trillions, there is little transparency on how funds are allocated and whether the budget has been effectively balanced.
“They tell us they are running budgets in trillions. But what have they done with the trillions? Have they been able to balance the budget?” he asked, questioning the government’s fiscal management.
