On Friday, President Donald Trump of the United States declared Nigeria as a Country of Specific Concern (CPC), responding to claims of extensive persecution and genocide against Christians.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump remarked that Christianity is under a significant threat in Nigeria.Additionally, the US leader placed Nigeria on a watchlist maintained by the State Department.”Christianity is confronted with a dire threat in Nigeria.
Thousands of Christians have been killed. This mass murder is orchestrated by radical Islamists,” Trump expressed.The US president noted that he was designating Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa and its leading oil producer, to the “Countries of Specific Concern” list, which includes nations deemed by the US as having committed violations of religious freedom.
According to the State Department’s website, this list encompasses countries such as China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, and Pakistan, among others. Trump mentioned that he had requested US Representatives Riley Moore and Tom Cole, along with the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, to investigate the issue and report their findings back to him.
