Dr. Tonderai Chiwawa, the Medical Officer in Bindura District, has sparked a wave of conversations on social media after allegedly presenting two goats as a form of compensation to his expectant girlfriend, Karen Tandanguni, following their separation.
The situation has intensified, with 25-year-old Karen taking the married physician to a traditional tribunal over the issue.
Karen asserts that their romantic involvement commenced in November 2022, during which Dr. Chiwawa purportedly vowed to marry her and even acquainted her with certain family members. However, she disclosed that some of his relatives cautioned her regarding his history of three marriages and numerous offspring. After their split, Karen claimed that the doctor offered her two goats as recompense, which she deemed an insult and subsequently turned down.
The affair has escalated further with Karen accusing Dr. Chiwawa of coercing her to terminate the pregnancy and allegedly threatening her when she declined. “I also fear for my safety because he expressed he would harm me if I decide to keep the child,” she mentioned.
Karen has reported the incident to Bindura Police Station, along with a theft complaint after her phone, containing damaging messages, was stolen. The matter is scheduled for a hearing before Chief Masembura on January 19 for resolution.
Dr. Chiwawa, however, refutes the claims, asserting that he only knows Karen from the neighborhood and dismissing her allegations as a plot to ruin his reputation. “I know the girl from around, and I don’t care whatever she claims. You can relay all the information she provides. She simply wants to tarnish my reputation,” he remarked.
