A flight attendant has allegedly been dismissed from her position due to a dance video she posted while on duty.
Nelle Diala, who served as a flight attendant with Alaska Airlines for more than six months, was said to have been let go after filming a twerking video while at work, according to the New York Post.
Following her termination for ‘breaching’ the airline’s ‘social media guidelines’, Diala launched a GoFundMe campaign for financial assistance.
The twerking and dancing clip was captioned, ‘ghetto bih till i D-I-E, don’t let the uniform mislead you.’
After her dismissal, Diala reposted the twerking video with an updated caption: ‘Can’t even be authentic anymore, without the world being so sensitive. What’s wrong with a little twerk before work, people act like they never did that kind of thing before.’ She included the hashtag #discriminationisreal.
According to Diala’s GoFundMe campaign page, she shared the ‘lighthearted clip’ during a layover. The video was filmed in an empty plane.
She stated, ‘It was a harmless video that was recorded at 6 am while waiting 2 hours for the pilots. I was also celebrating the end of probation.’
‘When the video went viral overnight, instead of receiving love and encouragement, it brought unforeseen scrutiny. While I acknowledge it was a poor decision on my part, I never expected it would cost me my dream career,’ she added.
The flight attendant also asserted that she was ‘wrongfully dismissed’, claiming, ‘My employer charged me with breaching their social media guidelines. I clarified that the video wasn’t meant to offend anyone or the company, but they were uninterested in my explanation. Without any advance notice, they fired me. No conversation, no chance to defend myself — and no opportunity for a thorough and proper inquiry.
