FUNAAB Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta has finally accepted the use of Niqob (veil) for all the Muslim women in the school.
The school management earlier banned the use of face coverings in 2021, leading to criticism from Muslims and human rights groups.
However, on September 11, 2023, a good number of Muslim students took to the University’s gate, carrying placards with different inscriptions to protest against the bullying and victimization by the school management against students wearing veil.
The students said it isn’t a fair play if the school management allow some students to roam almost nude around the school premises and have issues with Muslim students who are covering their bodies with veils.
However, the school management at its Special Meeting held on Friday, September 29, 2023, finally bowed to the pressure and okayed the use of niqab for all female Muslims students
The school management in the circular issued confirmed the approval of the development and recommended the students’ dress code as seen above.
