Hon. Dennis Idahosa, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has strongly refuted the claims linking him to involvement in a clandestine sect.
The allegation emerged in a widely circulated video that implicated Idahosa along with other prominent individuals in Edo State as participants in various secret societies. In his response, the Deputy Governor labeled the assertions as baseless, slanderous, malicious, groundless, and exceedingly misleading.
He additionally expressed his determination to initiate legal proceedings to contest the claims, which he referred to as a targeted effort to damage his reputation and undermine his dedication to public service.
In a statement he personally signed, Idahosa communicated his disbelief over the accusations made by one Emmanuel Agbogun, who listed him among individuals allegedly engaged in clandestine cult activities.
“My attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media, in which one Emmanuel Agbogun falsely accused me, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Dennis Idahosa, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, of being a member of a secret cult,” he stated.
“I categorically assert that these accusations are baseless, slanderous, malicious, groundless, and exceedingly misleading. They represent a deliberate maneuver to tarnish my hard-earned reputation and to undermine my steadfast commitment to public service,” Idahosa continued.
The Deputy Governor asserted that the present administration stands firm in its zero-tolerance approach towards cultism and other social ills. He remarked that these allegations were intended to divert attention from the government’s ongoing mission to combat cultism and restore peace and order within Edo State.
“The claim that I am affiliated with any secret cult group is entirely false and unfounded. I vehemently deny any involvement, either past or present, in cult-related activities,” Idahosa proclaimed.
He reaffirmed his dedication to integrity, transparency, and accountability in his position as Deputy Governor, promising to explore all legal options to ensure that the defamation is addressed to the fullest extent of the law.
Idahosa further clarified his beliefs by emphasizing his faith and personal principles:
“For the avoidance of doubt, I am not, and have never been, a member of any secret cult. I am a Christian and a firm believer in the teachings of Jesus Christ,” he confirmed.
He urged well-meaning citizens of Edo State to remain vigilant and support the government’s endeavors to eliminate cultism and uphold the principles of peace, justice, and development.
The Deputy Governor’s statement highlights the administration’s commitment to eradicate cult-related activities, which he characterized as a menace to communities and a barrier to the state’s progress.
