Sunday Igboho Endorses Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid, Rejects Obi and Atiku

Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho publicly backs President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, saying he does not support Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar for Nigeria’s presidency.

Sunday Igboho Declares Support for Tinubu’s Second-Term Presidency

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has openly expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his potential bid for a second term in office.

In a video circulating online, the self-determination campaigner declared his backing for the Nigerian leader, stating that he wants Tinubu to remain in power beyond his current tenure.

Igboho Rejects Obi and Atiku

During the video message, Igboho dismissed the possibility of supporting other prominent political figures, specifically mentioning Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.

He stated clearly that he does not want either of them to become president. According to him, his preference is for Tinubu to continue leading the country.

“Even after Bola Tinubu completes his eight years in office, we will still beg him to continue,” he said.

Call for Tinubu to Continue After Two Terms

Igboho also suggested that even after Tinubu completes the constitutionally allowed eight years in office, supporters may still encourage him to remain Nigeria’s leader.

The remarks have sparked reactions across social media and political circles, especially as discussions around the 2027 Nigerian presidential election gradually begin to emerge.

Warning Against Mentioning Atiku or Peter Obi in Southwest

In the same statement, Igboho cautioned against political discussions involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or former presidential candidate Peter Obi in the Southwest region.

According to him, the region strongly belongs to Tinubu politically, suggesting that alternative political campaigns should not be brought into the area.

His comments have since generated mixed reactions among Nigerians, particularly on social media, where debates about the future of Nigeria’s political leadership are already intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections.

Yoruba Union Distances Itself From Igboho’s Political Position

However, Igboho’s remarks do not appear to represent the position of all Yoruba advocacy groups.

Previously, the Yoruba Union, also known as Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, publicly distanced itself from the activist.

The group clarified that it was not involved in any political campaign or endorsement linked to the All Progressives Congress or President Tinubu.

The organisation also rejected suggestions that Igboho was speaking on behalf of the broader Yoruba self-determination movement.

Renewed Political Debate

Igboho’s comments come at a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is already witnessing early debates over potential alliances and leadership choices ahead of the next election cycle.

While his remarks reflect personal support for the current president, they have also reignited conversations about political succession, party strategies, and voter expectations across the country.

Political analysts say endorsements, criticisms, and early alignments from influential figures and regional groups could play a role in shaping future political strategies across the country.
