The Truth Oprah Learned About Thin People After Using Ozempic

With the emergence of weight loss medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy, numerous celebrities like Oprah have stepped forward to confess their usage in pursuit of a slimmer figure.

Oprah Winfrey, who recently disclosed that her perspective on “slim individuals” has significantly transformed since embarking on her weight loss journey.

The iconic talk-show host interviewed Dr. Ania Jastreboff on her podcast.

“One realization I had the very first time I took a [weight loss medication] was that throughout these years, I believed that slender individuals possessed greater willpower,” Oprah confessed. “They consumed healthier foods. They could adhere to their plans longer. They never indulged in a potato chip.”

“Then I came to the realization during my first experience with the [weight loss medication] that they aren’t even contemplating it,” she elaborated. “They eat when they feel hungry, and they stop when they feel satisfied.”

The 70-year-old shed nearly 50 pounds on her weight loss journey and discovered that her body image had changed dramatically since her peak fame.

“Every week, [I was] scrutinized by the tabloids; any comedian wanting to poke fun would invariably target me,” she reflected on her time in the limelight. “I accepted it, believing I deserved it.”

Oprah expressed that she ultimately acknowledged her beauty regardless of her size and that she should never feel “inferior” for not achieving her target weight.

Previously, the media icon felt hesitant to admit to using weight loss medications due to the associated stigma.

“I carried so much shame about that aspect of my life, and even when I first began hearing about the weight loss medications, I was simultaneously recovering from knee surgery, and I thought I had to do this on my own because if I resorted to the medication, it would be the easy way out,” she shared during an Oprah Daily panel.

“Part of me felt—similar to how many view bariatric surgery—that I needed to tackle this the hard way, to keep climbing the mountains, to endure more suffering, and do it the tough way, or else I would feel like I cheated myself.”

She ultimately chose to shed the shame and discussed using weight loss medications with her doctors to aid her in reaching her target weight.

“As someone who has faced shame for so many years about my weight, I am just fed up with it,” she stated.

The billionaire concluded that she couldn’t lose weight solely through willpower. “I was aware of [weight loss] medications, but felt compelled to demonstrate I had the willpower to succeed,” she told People.

“I came to the realization that I had been blaming myself for being overweight all these years, and I have a predisposition that no degree of willpower can govern. Obesity is a medical condition. It isn’t about willpower—it’s about the brain.”
