Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina as New JAMB Registrar

President Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new JAMB Registrar, succeeding Prof. Is-haq Oloyede. Learn about his background, achievements, and plans for JAMB.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), following the completion of Professor Is-haq Oloyede’s second term in office on July 31, 2026.

Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July 2026, is widely recognised for his expertise in technology-driven educational systems, institutional reform, and digital infrastructure development.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. He later obtained both a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. In addition, he completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his journey with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. His early exposure to the Board’s admission and examination processes reportedly played a key role in shaping his interest in educational technology and examination reforms.

With more than 15 years of professional experience, Professor Aina has built a reputation for combining technology, policy, and institutional transformation. He has advised both federal and state governments on digital transition projects, operational improvements, and system design.

At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.

Over the years, Aina has worked with major examination agencies such as the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several State Ministries of Education. His contributions have focused on improving ICT systems, strengthening examination security, and enhancing digital operations.

He is also affiliated with several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

President Tinubu expressed confidence in the new appointee, stating that Professor Aina’s knowledge, experience, and innovative approach would help JAMB build on the achievements recorded under Professor Oloyede’s leadership and further strengthen Nigeria’s education system.
