A FEMA supervisor has been sacked after directing Disaster relief teams to steer clear of assisting individuals residing in homes displaying Trump signage.
Authorities confirmed to the Daily Wire that FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington was let go following her directive for workers to avoid residences that are adorned with Trump signs outside.
“Steer clear of homes showcasing Trump,” Washington noted in a “best practices” memorandum.
As per the Daily Wire’s exclusive coverage, the FEMA personnel were operating in Highlands County, Florida, in the wake of Hurricane Milton.
At least 20 residences were skipped by FEMA teams due to the presence of Trump signs and flags outside.
Images shared in the article depicted homes that were overlooked by FEMA representatives. In their notes, they characterized the properties as “unable to access” and included comments like “Trump sign no entry per management,” “As instructed no stop Trump flag,” “Trump sign,” and “Trump sign, no engagement per management.”
A formal grievance was lodged to FEMA, questioning state-endorsed discrimination against citizens based on their political affiliations.
“This conduct raises serious apprehensions regarding discrimination against American citizens owing to their political opinions,” the grievance stated. “Such actions not only jeopardize the integrity of our agency and foster a hostile atmosphere for those who may possess differing political ideologies, but they also threaten the essence of our nation’s democracy.”
A FEMA staff member remarked, “I chose to assist disaster victims, not to discriminate against them. It was irrelevant whether individuals were black, white, Hispanic, supporters of Trump, or advocates for Harris. Everyone warrants equal assistance.”
Following the controversy that gained traction online, FEMA released a statement to the New York Post;
FEMA offers assistance to all individuals affected, regardless of their political beliefs or associations, and we are profoundly troubled by this employee’s conduct,” a representative stated to The Post.
“Although we regard this as a singular event, we have implemented actions to relieve the employee of their duties and are examining the issue to avert this from occurring in the future,” they continued.
“The individual who provided this instruction lacked the proper authority and received no guidance to advise teams to steer clear of these residences, and we are making contact with those who may have been overlooked due to this incident.”
“We are appalled that this occurred and have taken significant steps to rectify this matter, ensuring it was addressed comprehensively,” the spokesperson remarked.
Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis, also made a statement:
“The overt manipulation of government by politically motivated activists within the federal system is yet another indication that the Biden-Harris administration is nearing its end,” DeSantis posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“Under my guidance, the Division of Emergency Management is initiating an inquiry into the federal government’s deliberate discrimination against Floridians who back Donald Trump,” he added.
After her dismissal, Washington reportedly altered her name (but kept her profile picture) on her social media platforms.
