NYSC Director-General Olakunle Nafiu has warned Corps members to avoid political activities, cyber offences, and embrace financial literacy during their service year.
NYSC DG Warns Corps Members Against Political Activities and Online Misconduct
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has advised Corps Members to steer clear of political activities, including campaigns, protests, and demonstrations that could associate them with any political party.
Speaking to members of the 2026 Batch B Stream I during an orientation programme at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, General Nafiu emphasized that the scheme remains strictly non-partisan. He noted that Corps Members are expected to maintain neutrality and refrain from engaging in any form of political involvement throughout their service year.
According to him, participation in political campaigns or activities capable of linking Corps Members to political organizations contradicts the values and principles of the NYSC. He therefore urged them to remain focused on their national assignment and avoid situations that could compromise the integrity of the scheme.
Use Social Media Responsibly
The NYSC boss also cautioned Corps Members against the misuse of social media platforms. He warned against offences such as cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and internet fraud, stressing that anyone found guilty of such acts would face the necessary legal and disciplinary consequences.
General Nafiu encouraged the Corps Members to be mindful of their online activities and protect their future by avoiding actions that could tarnish their reputation or hinder their career prospects.

Embrace Financial Discipline and Personal Development
Beyond political neutrality and responsible online behaviour, the Director-General urged Corps Members to adopt sound financial habits. He encouraged them to cultivate a savings culture, spend wisely, and maintain discipline in both their personal and professional lives.
He also advised participants to maximize the opportunities available during the service year by building meaningful relationships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. According to him, such interactions play a vital role in promoting national unity and strengthening social integration.
Take Advantage of Entrepreneurship and Investment Opportunities
General Nafiu further encouraged Corps Members to actively participate in the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. He explained that the initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with practical skills that can create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities after service.
In addition, he highlighted the importance of investment education and urged Corps Members to explore opportunities within Nigeria’s capital market.
He noted that the recently launched NYSC/Kudimata Capital Market Awareness Sensitisation Programme in Lagos was introduced to provide Corps Members with essential knowledge about investing and financial management. The programme, he explained, aims to improve financial literacy and empower young Nigerians to make informed investment decisions that can support long-term financial security.
Conclusively, the NYSC leadership has reiterated the importance of discipline, political neutrality, financial responsibility, and responsible digital conduct among Corps Members. By focusing on personal development, entrepreneurship, and national integration, Corps Members can make the most of their service year while laying a strong foundation for their future careers and financial success.
