The Corporate Affairs Commission has rescinded the registration certificate for the National Youth Council of Nigeria, ( NYCN )effective October 6, 2025, as a significant step towards addressing the organization’s enduring leadership turmoil.
The Ministry of Youth Development announced it had received formal correspondence from the regulatory agency informing it of the cancellation of the license previously issued on October 28, 2020.In an announcement signed and distributed by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Omolara Esan, on Tuesday, the CAC stated that the action was in accordance with the authority granted to the Commission under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020.
“The Federal Ministry of Youth Development hereby advises the general public, especially all youth stakeholders, member organizations, and affiliates of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), that it has received official notification from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), dated October 6, 2025, regarding the withdrawal of the registration certificate previously issued to the National Youth Council of Nigeria on October 28, 2020.The withdrawal is in response to an FCT High Court ruling preventing Comrades Ademola Gbenga, Okechukwu Nnamene, and others from conducting a parallel election set for today, Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

As reported by the Vanguard Newspaper, Justice J. E. Obanor “issued the interim order in Abuja on October 6, in suit no: FCT/HC/CV/3803/2025 and motion no: M/12204/2025, instructing the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to enforce the ruling until the substantive suit is resolved.
” The Ministry has therefore acknowledged the CAC’s directive, encouraging stakeholders, youth organizations, and partners to take due notice of the situation and support the Interim Committee moving forward.Esan reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to establishing a stable, credible, and inclusive youth governance framework that aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The Ministry urges all stakeholders, youth organizations, and partners of the Council to be aware of this development and to fully cooperate with the Interim Management Committee during this restructuring process. The goal is to restore unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to the NYCN, in line with its original ideals.
